Ndejje Senior Secondary School started in 1963 as a private parents' school by the Late Tito Ssesanga Walusimbi, who was by then the Headmaster of Ndejje Boys' School. During his regime as Headmaster for the Primary section, he had collected 100/= from each pupil as a building fee, which was later used to lay the foundation of the current Ndejje S.S.S. The school started as an institution of secondary school education for students hailing, mainly from Bulemeezi and Buluuli counties who used to join Kings College Budo, Gayaza High School and other tertiary institutions in the country. He set up a building of wattle and mud whose four rooms were used as a hostel. Notably among this group is the Mayor of Kampala John Ssebaana Kizito, the former Governor of Bank of Uganda, the Late Nyonyintono Kikonyogo and the Late Sam Sebagereka who was a minister in the UNLF and NRM governments. Ndejje has lived to fulfill its dreams.
When the Junior School celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1962, an idea was mooted to establish a secondary school. The dream came true in 1963 when the first students were enrolled at Ndejje Senior Secondary School. By 1964, the school had expanded with a second intake and moved across the valley to a building belonging to Mr. Sepuya, an eminent local citizen. This was done as construction work of the dormitories and classrooms at the present site was being undertaken. The first intakes were all boys. The first border girl students were accommodated in a building given to the school by Nalinya Lwantale Girls' School.
Government takes over the school
In 1964, Mr. Tito Walusimbi retired as Headmaster and handed over the school to Mr. Andrew Ayiro, a Kenyan, when the school's second intake was being enrolled. Negotiations for the Central Government to take over the school started and materialized in 1965, when it became a fully-fledged government aided secondary school. Mr. Lubambula became the Headmaster thereafter. The first two classes of 1963 and 1964 were joined together to form the S2 class and got many American Peace Corps as teachers.
In 1967, the pioneers of Ndejje S.S.S sat their O'Level Cambridge School Certificate. The best students joined Higher School Certificate classes. Stephen Kaggwa went to Nabumali High School , John Elly Sentongo went to Agakhan S.S and Ndiwalana went to Kololo High School. After their A' Level, they joined universities as follows: John Elly Sentongo went to Makerere University for Bachelor of Commerce, Stephen Kaggwa to Dar-es-Salaam University for Business Administration while Stephen Muwanga went to Makerere for Education. Other pioneer students joined various tertiary institutions offering different courses, such as teaching, cooperatives, surveying and the like.
Ndejje benefited from the Second IDA grant to the government of Uganda in which the construction of classes, a library and teachers' houses was done. The first Dining Hall was of corrugated iron sheets for both the roof and the walls. The Minister of Education at that time Hon. Luyimbazi Zaake gave a hand in equipping the wood workshop and the Domestic Science Room with electrical appliances.
